STA Eagle Fund Project #1
St. Thomas Academy
Eagle Fund1 - Charlie Treacy '22
I am going into my senior year at STA where I participate in football, swimming, band, and theater. I have been active in Scouts for 11 years now and enjoyed the high adventure trips to both Philmont and Sea Base. Now I am looking forward to completing this Eagle Scout Leadership Project as the capstone to my scouting experience. I am also working with a local non-profit educational foundation as part of the Citizen in the Community merit badge.
Eagle Leadership Project Overview
For my Eagle Leadership Project, I will be constructing a fire pit and seating area outside of the priest's residence behind Saint Thomas Academy. While the building has been vacant for a number of years, it is now home to a retired bishop who will soon be joined by our school chaplain.
This new gathering space will be a much-needed improvement to the property for years to come. It will increase the priests’ capacity to host events and friends, growing companionship, and enhancing camaraderie within the Saint Thomas Academy community and beyond. I am hoping this patio will be the first of a series of improvements that Cadet Scouts can make as they progress towards the rank of Eagle.
My Donations are Needed For...
Materials for the firepit, liner, ground excavation and underlayment, patio (if enough funds are raised) or mulch will surround the fire in a 14 foot seating area. I am looking to raise approximately $2,000. Excess funds will go to STA or a designated charity (TBD by the beneficiary). Our current plan for all STA-raised funds is devote any excess beyond the $2000 to create an ongoing "STA Eagle Fund" that can be used by future Cadet Eagle Scout candidates whenever there is a project that requires funding assistance in order for it to be feasible for a scout to complete.
What's the Plan?
I have raised enough to begin excavating the top layer of grass off to form the seating area. I launched my first site prep session on June 19. I am hoping to raise enough to order the rest of the materials as soon as possible, and plan to keep fundraising open until July 15. Note that on June 25, a film crew from the National Committee on Catholic Scouting will be present to interview Fr. Pavlak and shoot some video of our crew. They will be using it to educates bishops and leaders across the country about the value of Scouting, and we hope the collaboration at St. Thomas Academy will be a great witness to dioceses nationwide.
How Do I Help?
